The Gran Corte is 50% Malbec, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. It is a lovely, sturdy Bordeaux blend with darker fruits and a bit of spice on the finish. Definitely ageable; definitely worthy.

2011 Chakana Estate Red Blend
2011 Chakana Estate Red Blend

94 WA

Mendoza, Argentina

Simply wonderful, elegant really, especially as it opens up. Tons of black cherry, silky and long lasting. Plays very nicely with food, neither dominating your special dish nor getting lost in the mix. We enjoyed it with hot and cold roast chicken, a peppery salami, cole slaw with ginger (really), and several different cheeses.

2011 BenMarco Expresivo
2011 BenMarco Expresivo

92 WS; 91 ST

Mendoza, Argentina

"Wafting aromas of red currants, black cherries and mildly smoky and sweet vanilla oak. Layers of currant fruit, dense black cherry, and notes of brown spice (cocoa, nutmeg), dark chocolate, and hints of sandalwood. Keeps showing its stuff as it breathes in the glass-- for folks who want the full experience and may be a bit impatient, decanting is a good idea. Perfect balance, great concentration and length, and loaded with fine, ripe tannins for having with food or for aging. This wine should also age beautifully for 10-25 years. Pairs well with a wide range of foods including grilled steak, roasted pork loin, veal, medium-strong cheeses, and most cream sauces."

2010 Tikal Patriota
2010 Tikal Patriota

91 WA; 89 ST

Mendoza, Argentina

Ernesto Catena sources his Bonarda from El Este, the Eastern Mendoza region which produces some of the best Bonarda because of its consistent warmer weather. The fruit flavors are ripe and juicy, not sweet, and we taste a layer of dark chocolate amidst all the fruit - an altogether yummy wine.

2010 Tacuil Vinas de Davalos
2010 Tacuil Vinas de Davalos

92 ST; 92 WA

Salta, Argentina

If you enjoy the great possibilities ahead, drink this now. If you have patience, you will indeed be rewarded. Big, powerful, dark purple fruits with a good measure of acidity. Raul Davalos, fourth generation winemaker, uses no wood on any of his high altitude wines, which we think gives them a measure of purity. The vines for this wine are only ten years old and are situated way high up in the Andes at over 7,000'. Wow!

2010 Tacuil 33 de Davalos Red Wine
2010 Tacuil 33 de Davalos Red Wine

92 WA; 90 ST

Salta, Argentina

This wine is just luscious. From seven year old vines at over 7,000' in the Salta region, this wine bursts with red cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, and a hint of spice. It is not the standard good salesperson technique to push the least expensive item, but this is really our favorite of the Bodega Tacuil wines. So good right now, and so clearly capable of ageing really beautifully.
