The cool year has resulted in more grass and hay fruit characters. The color is perfect, lots of luminous green tints. There are citrus notes to the aromas as well. Lighter, fresh lime and lemongrass flavors on release as a young wine. Great acidity, and the 10.5 alcohol is perfect for summer drinking.

Pinot Noir; Red Wine

2012 Brokenwood Beechworth Pinot Noir

Good depth of color and youthful purple tints are evident. Complex aromas of lifted, sweet red cherry over earthy, savory characters with a touch of oak are echoed on the palate. Balance is aided by ripe tannins over a lingering finish. Enjoyable as a zippy, young wine, it will mature well for 4 to 8 years.

Typical Hunter Valley dry red color with mid density and young red tints, the standard for this wine as it is never 'dense black'. Bran meal/vanilla oak is evident with sufficient fruit to balance. Fruit characters are in the red savory spectrum, almost cherry compote. These follow on to the medium bodied palate with plenty of sweet fruit.

2010 Brokenwood Hunter Valley Shiraz

Shiraz; Red Wine

2010 Brokenwood Hunter Valley Shiraz

Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia

93 JH; 91 WE; 91 ST Sorry, sold out. ETA early 2016.
Medium density colour but still vibrant with purple hues. The result of a cooler year and Hunter reds in general are never big and black in color. Very good lifted red cherry/red earth fruit aromas and some vanillin oak. A perfect supple, medium bodied palate. Savory notes and red fruits. The tannins are soft but sufficient to give length and drive to the palate. The oak is a touch forward (not long after bottling) but will settle and there is enough fruit to match it.

Hunter Valley, South Australia

Luminous green in color. Aromas are of lifted lime cordial and citrus zest, as well as the desirable bees wax and emerging toast for bottle age. A fuller, richer palate structure with flavours of honey, cut grass and toast abound. The increase in texture, almost oak-like, is part of the magic of Hunter Semillon. Excellent acid structure that will see this wine reach ten plus years without problems.

The oak regime is older American and French, adding subtle vanillin on both nose and palate with a long finish."
