"93 pts ... The 2004 Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon (which contains 10% Merlot) is sourced from a single Eden Valley vineyard and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak. Purple-colored, it gives off classic Bordeaux aromas of toasty oak, vanilla, mineral, black currant, and blackberry. Elegant on the palate, it conceals enough silky tannin to evolve for 8-10 years. Nicely integrated and harmonious, this stylish wine should perform optimally from 2015 to 2034." --02/09

"94 pts ... Ruby-red. A sexy bouquet displays candied red- and blackcurrant, dark cherry, cured tobacco, vanilla and cola. Lush, deeply concentrated cassis and cherry flavors are sweetened by a suave quality and complicated by smoky Indian spices. Very complex, with velvety tannins adding gentle finishing grip. The length of this wine is superb. This alluring wine was raised in 100% new French oak but there's more than ample fruit to handle it. " --09/08
Winemaker's Notes

"99 pts ... The flagship 2004 Hill of Grace (100% Shiraz) was sourced from vines ranging in age from 56 to 148 years. It spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. Purple-colored, it reveals a breathtaking aromatic array of violets, pepper, leather, smoked meat, game, blueberry compote, and black cherry. It splendidly combines elegance with power in a spicy, savory amalgam along with that extra dimension that can only be provided by old vines and a great site. Drink this hedonistic Shiraz from 2015 to 2040." --02/09

"92 pts ... 63% shiraz, 18% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot and 9% cabernet franc) Saturated red color. Black raspberry, boysenberry, cherry-cola and Asian spices on the nose, with gentle oak spiciness adding further complexity. Plump and juicy, offering luscious dark berry, cherry-vanilla flavors and succulent herb flavors, with silky tannins providing frame. Firm minerality lends focus to an impressively long, juicy finish, which leaves anise and baking spices behind. Suave and sweet, with the balance to age but the sex-appeal to drink now.” -- 09/08
James Halliday

"97 pts ....The 2005 Mount Edelstone is a 100% Shiraz cuvee sourced from a vineyard planted in 1912. Yields are a meager 0.3 to 0.5 tons of fruit per acre. In combination with a near ideal growing season, this has resulted in a great edition of Mount Edelstone, one of South Australia’s iconic wines. Purple-colored, the nose gives up notes of mocha, chocolate, smoked meat, pepper, leather, blueberry, and blackberry. Elegant, already complex, layered, and thoroughly satisfying, this superb Shiraz has enough baby fat to be enjoyed now but will amply reward 5-7 years of cellaring. It will drink beautifully through 2025. " -02/09
Stephen Tanzer
"94 pts ... Youthful violet color. Powerfully scented bouquet shows deep blackberry, cassis and mulberry qualities, along with exotic fruitcake and incense notes. Fleshy and sweet, with deep, supple dark berry preserve and candied licorice flavors, picking up smoky mineral and floral pastille tones with air. Extremely complex, and very young, with slow-mounting tannins adding grip to the long, sappy finish. This is really persistent, and admirably precise. Showing very nicely right now, but build for the cellar." -09/08
James Halliday
"94 pts ... Elegant and medium-bodied, with marked spice, pepper and savoury components on both bouquet and palate; a core of red and black fruits, plus silky, fine tannins. Drink to 2025."--09/07
Winemaker's Notes
"Deep crimson in colour with a purple hue. Powerful, ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with complexing hints of star anise, ferns, eucalypt and dark chocolate. The palate is an intense and concentrated blend of sweet, juicy plum pudding fruit and structured ripe tannin. With mouthfilling power, seamless texture and lingering finish the wine displays the hallmark characters of the Mount Edelstone vineyard in one of its greatest years."
Technical Notes
"In 1912 Ronald Angas planted the sandy loam slopes of Mount Edelstone with shiraz. Located high in the Eden Valley region this vineyard came to be known as Mount Edelstone meaning gemstone. The 90-year-old ungrafted dry-grown vines from this historic single vineyard are low yielding, producing a depth of colour, concentration of flavour, length and maturity of tannins unique to old-vine shiraz. Mount Edelstone has achieved a formidable reputation since its first vintage in 1952. Acid 6.65 g/L; p.H. 3.49 14.5% alc."

"90(+?) pts ... 66% shiraz, 19% grenache and 7% viognier) Bright ruby color. An exotic bouquet displays red berry liqueur, candied orange, incense and fresh flowers. Supply red and dark berry flavors betray no rough edges and the tannins are well-hidden, giving this excellent up-front appeal. Really showing its fruit today and I wonder if a bit of bottle age would lend greater complexity. Hard to argue with the wine's sex appeal, though. " -- 09/08
Wine Advocate
"92 pts ... The 2006 Henry’s Seven is composed of 65% Shiraz, 20% Grenache, 8% Mourvedre, and 7% Viognier aged for 14 months in seasoned oak. Dark ruby-colored, it exhibits an expressive nose of cedar, mineral, black cherry, black raspberry, and blueberry. On the palate this full-bodied effort offers racy flavors, plenty of spice, outstanding depth and grip, and a silky finish. It can be enjoyed over the next six years. "--02/09
James Halliday
"91 pts ... A lively, approachable, soft and silky blend where all of the parts play a role; right now the viognier dominates with accentuated florals, but over time the more robust character of the other varieties will shine. Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvedre/Viognier. Drink through 2014." --02/08
Winemaker's Notes
"Deep crimson in colour. Aromas of sweet, lifted, spicy blueberries, plums, blackberries, anise and mace, with stone-fruit and floral hints. Sshowing soft, rich and bright spicy peppery fruit on the palate. The texture is juicy and lush with layers of velvety tannins and great length."

Light straw-colored, it offers up a fragrant nose of citrus and melon leading to a medium-bodied wine with complex flavors, good acidity, and a lengthy finish.
