SHINGLEBACK McLaren Vale, South Australia Let the Davey's introduce you to McLaren Vale - one of Australia's most renowned wine - growing regions. During the 1990's, a long held dream was realised when brothers, Kym and John Davey, combined their talents to develop their Shingleback vineyard on land purchased by their grandfather in 1959. Their goal was, and remains, to produce affordable, quality wines that express the true character of McLaren Vale. |
Winemaker's Notes
"Deep garnet in colour with vibrant magenta bubbles. Aromas of concentrated blackcurrant with hints of licorice, spice and dark cherries. Creamy bubbles and luscious sweetness envelop the plump blackberry mid-palate, which is enhanced with hints of savory development. The long sweet fruit finish is balanced with fine tannin and acidity." Technical Notes
"100% Shiraz, a blend of specially selected parcels of Shiraz sourced over several vintages. Each parcel displays different characteristics, some rich and powerful, some with minimal oak influence, and some with soft tannin structures. With secondary fermentation, these individual components combine, leading to a fresh lifted wine with complex aromatics. T.A. 6.3g/L; pH 3.39; Residual Sugar 26.5g/L. 14.5% alc." |

"90 pts ... Powerful and intense on the nose, with jammy blackberry fruit framed by lashings of vanilla, but more intriguing and complex on the palate, as the flavors add layers of cola, coffee and chocolate. It’s full-bodied and round in the mouth, finishing firm enough to suggest short-term cellaring; drink now–2015." --3/08 Winemaker's Notes
"Vibrant red. Lifted blackberry and strawberry aromas are enhanced with nuances of chocolate and vanilla. Fine grained American and French oak subtly frame the ripe berry mid-palate. A full-bodied wine with a velvety mouthfeel, that is seamlessly integrated from the first taste to the long, lingering finish." Technical Notes
"This wine is hand-crafted in small open and static fermenters to maximise the potential of each small parcel of fruit. Maturation for an average of 14 months in fine grained American and French oak hogsheads softens, enhances & integrates the fruit & structural components of the wine. 14.5% alc." |

"92 pts ... Bright and spicy, with flashes of white pepper and carnation around a supple core of currant and blackberry. The fruit is most prominent on the long, expressive finish. The tannins are well-integrated. Drink now through 2016." --09/07 Winemaker's Notes
"Black cherry red. Primary mulberry and blackberry fruit aromas are highlighted with notes of summer roses andstar anise. Bright, luscious shiraz fruit flavours are textured with silky tannins. This wine is the essence of the vine, the time, the place and the harsh, black, cracking clay over limestone soils, all of which combine to make it unique each year. " Technical Notes
"In a small niche of the Davey Family Vineyard, the soil, climate and shiraz combine to create something special - the fruit that is ultimately handcrafted to become D Block Reserve Shiraz. Gentle handworking of the skins in small, 5 tonne open fermenters and traditional winemaking practices protect and nurture the unique qualities of the terroir. Very finegrained American and French oak hogsheads are used to allow a long, slow maturation of the wine and subtle oak integration. A combination of new and one year old barrels, crafted by select coopers to our requirements, are used to create nuances and diversity of flavour. When maturation and oak integration are perfect, individual barrels are selected and blended to create the fruit power, complexity and harmonious balance that is Shingleback D Block Reserve Shiraz. 14.5% alc." |

"Deep red with just a touch of youthful purple. Ripe blackberry aromas with hints of violets, earthy truffle and Belgian dark chocolate. Dark cherry and blackberry flavours overflow from the mid-palate into a long finish. A medium to full bodied wine with fine tannin and balanced acidity. Maturation in fine grained French and American oak hogsheads integrates and subtly enhances the wine with savoury French and vanillan American oak nuances." 14.5% alc. |
