2013 Luca Nico Malbec

Malbec; Red Wine

2013 Luca Nico Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina

24+ bottles available.
Deep, dark color -- you could use it in an inkwell! Dense and concentrated but never loses its ability to exude the red and black fruits and spice that are the true expression of Malbec in Mendoza. This is a huge wine that is a blend of old-vine grapes from two of Mendoza's most respected growers, located in two different districts. Only 4 barrels produced. While you certainly could drink this now, it will improve considerably with 3-5 years in the bottle. If you do drink it now, decant a few hours before drinking.

2013 Clos de los Siete

Red Wine

2013 Clos de los Siete

Mendoza, Argentina

24+ bottles available.
"Bright medium ruby. Sexy, nuanced aromas of blackberry, game, chocolate, herbs and smoky oak, with suggestions of liqueur-like ripeness. Suave on entry, then dense and smooth in the middle, showing good violet lift to the intense black fruit flavors. The rising finish shows excellent retention of fruit and tannins that are firm but not hard. As usual, this bottling offers a lot of flavor for the price." -- Stephen Tanzer

2012 Cheval des Andes

59% Malbec/36% Cabernet Sauvignon/5% Petit Verdot; Red Wine

2012 Cheval des Andes

Mendoza, Argentina

24+ bottles available.
The joint venture between Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes, notably the first and only one ever for Cheval Blanc, originated as Pierre Lurton, Cheval Blanc's Director, sought out a special terroir outside France in which to apply the deep and historical knowledge of blending. Lurton was captivated by the idea of unearthing a connection with Saint Emilion's past, as he found 76-year-old pre-phylloxera Malbec vines, producing some of the world's best wines. From ungrafted 76-year old vines, two full plants per bottle.

"92 pts ... The 2010 Gran Corte is a blend of 60% Malbec, 20% Syrah and 20% Cabernet Franc which aged for 18 months in brand new French oak barrels and has a complex nose with aniseed, licorice, nutmeg and black pepper aromas intermixed with red and black fruit. This wine combines Mediterranean and Atlantic characteristics with the wood perfectly integrated into the powerful wine. The palate is medium to full-bodied but maintains good balance and elegance, perhaps with some tannins that will benefit from some bottle aging. Drink 2015-2020." -- Wine Advocate 04/14
