2015 Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz

Shiraz; Red Wine

2015 Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz

Barossa Valley, South Australia

94 JH
22+ bottles available.
This wine reflects the up and coming Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle hardened old vines which make up the core of our other cuvees. Full of deep, dark berry fruit, the 2015 vintage is sensational array of opulent rich fruit with a wonderful freshness and balance. A dark deep, central core of fruit givesway to an intense textural mid palate full of mocha, plum, spice and dark chocolate. Whilst offering immense pleasure in its youth the 2015 Woodcutter’s Shiraz will certainly develop into an impressive wine with a few years in the cellar. Another fantastic introduction to the Torbreck range.

Medium bodied with a pristine lemon hue this youthful Semillon offers delicate scents of calamansi, limestone, candle wax, and toasted brioche. The copper-pink skins of this robust, age-old Madeira Clone flesh out the palate, lending notes of almond kernels, soft pineapple, roasted cashew and white peach. Underlying notes of citrus oil and minerals maintain the wines freshness whilst a crisp spine of razor-like acidity neatly lace together the finish. Although beautifully enjoyable in its youth with sashimi and fresh shellfish this wine will continue to increase in complexity with time and should provide compelling drinking over the coming years.

2013 Torbreck Run Rig

Shiraz; Red Wine

2013 Torbreck Run Rig

Barossa Valley, South Australia

98+ WA; 96 WS
3 bottles available.
The 2013 Vintage was set up by low spring rainfall and a relatively volatile flowering period resulting in a low fruit set coming into the summer months. Vintage took place a month earlier than 2012 with most vineyards picked by the end of March – it was the earliest finish to vintage in living memory. Yields were generally below average but the overall quality was excellent providing rich colour along with a near perfect balance of acidity and tannin. Intense, lifted aromatics are released as soon as the wine is opened; dark cherry crème de cassis and hints of nutmeg all come to the fore with an underlying opulent fruit profile of black olive, cassis and plum. A dark, rich and silky palate with deep red cherry fruits, clove, lavender & licorice all interwoven with hints of sweet spice and cinnamon. The layers and diverse fruit characters continue to evolve in the glass with anise, hints of almond, earth, blackberry and pepper all becoming more apparent as the wine evolves in the glass. A rich, opulent RunRig 2013 will certainly reward those with patience.

59% Grenache/ 22% Shiraz/ 19% Mataro; Red Wine

2014 Torbreck Juveniles Cuvee

Barossa Valley, South Australia

90 JS

Bold and seductive, this youthful, unoaked blend encapsulates all that is great in natural, pure, unseasoned wine. Its fragrance, intensity and energy are all reminiscent of freshly fermenting must, with ripe juicy flavours of blackberry, spiced cherries, minerals and Asian spices wrapped around a skeleton of fresh acidity and fine mineral laden tannins. Soft and sensuous, this wine is frightfully drinkable already, but as with its predecessors will greatly recompense those who choose to give it a few years in the cellar.

2014 Torbreck The Descendant

Barossa Valley, South Australia

The 2012 Descendant was picked slightly later than usual due to cooler conditions in February and March and was picked on the 4th April. The cooler conditions have given the wine clearly defined aromatics and a silky, supple fruit profile. Immediately impressive the sublime bouquet is reminiscent of violet, lavender and spice. Lavish layers of dense blueberry fruit is perfectly interwoven with nuances of cinnamon, tar, exotic spice, pepper and dark cherry. Full-bodied with great concentration, and silky tannins this suave wine has impeccable balance and a long future ahead of it.
