"The nose offers aromas of grapefruit, dried apple, blanched almonds and struck flint mineral notes. The palate is long and lush with beautiful creaminess. Alongside a backbone of crisp and punchy acidity are notes of Granny Smith apple skins, stonefruits, citrus and shortbread. A luscious and complex wine from an excellent, low yielding vintage."
"The fruit was hand picked and bunch pressed to tank. Juice transferred to barrel after eight hours settling. 100% indigenous fermentation, in barrel at 18 - 24°C. Time in oak - 9 months. Lees stirred twice only, between May and August. No malolactic fermentation. Transferred to tank in January for a light chill and coarse filtration before bottling. Time in French oak (20% new) - 9 months.13.5% alc."

"92 pts ... A firm, luscious chardonnay from a hot, dry year in Yarra, this needs air to integrate its alcohol into layers of complex flavors, transforming that warmth into an overtone of sweet orange, while scents of pear skin and earth deepen the finish. The wine has enough intensity to match a veal roast."

$44.9995 JH; 92 ST From the Yarra Valley, one of Australia's premier Pinot Noir growing regions (you too, Tasmania, and you too, Brokenwood Pinot Noir). Ta da - Giant Steps! The perfect drop to enjoy with the Coltrane performance of the same name, we get something fragrant on the nose - wood or spices - and taste purple fruits. The wine has what we think of as the Yarra Valley leanness, perhaps more properly minerality. Very tasty, very food friendly.
