Barossa Valley, South Australia

Oh my. Dark black purple. Unctuous, velvety richness in a glass and aren't you fortunate if it's yours! Dark purple fruits, chocolate and earth are balanced all the way through the long, long finish with oak, fine tannins and a touch of spice. More please.

Winemaker's Notes
"Aromatics of currants, dark inky fruits of blackberry and blueberry, and an underlying earthy complexity are followed by a deep, dense and impeccably balanced palate. A complex array of dark fruits, earthy undertones and balanced oak flavours of chocolate and spice combine with the soft velvety tannins that are synonymous with the rich, voluptuous Clos Otto. Drink now and for the next 30 years."

Technical Notes
"The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and left on skins to ferment for 8 days before being basket pressed to a combination of new (90%) and old French barrels, where it underwent natural malolactic fermentation. The wine was then returned to oak to mature for 22 months. No fining or filtration was used in the production of this wine. 15% alc."
James Halliday
"96 pts ... Deep, impenetrable purple, grading all the way to the rim; the bouquet sends wave upon wave of blackberry and black cherry fruit, coupled with licorice, to announce the spectacular palate that follows; oak plus touches of licorice and bitter chocolate join forces with the fruits of the bouquet; despite its massive frame, the wine is well-balanced and, cork permitting, has many decades in front of it. Do remember that this is for lovers of full-bodied Barossa shiraz, and is rated for them. Drink through 2040."

Wine Advocate
"96 pts ... Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Shiraz Clos Otto shows expressive notes of cassis, blackberry preserves, mint and licorice highlighted by dark chocolate, earth and loam hints plus whiffs of cinnamon and cardamom. Full-bodied and quite elegant in the mouth, it is nicely balanced between medium to high acid and medium to firm, velvety tannins before finishing long. Drink it from 2015 to 2030+. "
