Winemaker's Notes
"The bouquet and flavour suggest raspberries, blackberries cherries and purple plums. These are supported by a savoury complexity, reminiscent of grilled mushrooms, roast game and black olive tapenade. The wine is powerful, yet elegant and understated with an even flow of fine grained tannins across the palate. A whisper of dark chocolate lingers in the mouth long after swallowing. Careful cellaring should bring out a range of other fascinating nuances as the wine develops."

Technical Notes
"Aged eighteen months in French oak barriques, thirty percent new. "
Stephen Tanzer
"90 pts ... Bright, dark red. Aromas of raspberry, smoked meat and blood orange. Sweet and wild on the palate, with a juicy, almost tart quality to the flavors of redcurrant, raspberry, pomegranate and spices. This energetic, firm-edged wine softened dramatically with aeration and is ultimately quite pliant."

Wine Advocate
"89 pts ... Medium ruby-purple-colored, the 2011 Pinot Noir displays a lovely nose of macerated red cherries, cranberries and violets with suggestions of wild thyme, underbrush and cinnamon. Medium-bodied and elegantly fruited in the mouth, it is nicely framed by a medium level of soft tannins and just enough acid to hold on the finish with good persistence. Drink it now to 2016+. "

2013 Escarpment Martinborough Pinot Noir
$44.99
93 WS Surprisingly juicy red fruits are really well balanced with tannins and spices we think typical of Martinborough, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Great with grilled sausages.
Temporarily out. Back circa early April.

2013 Astrolabe Pinot Noir
$27.99
Honestly not initially our favorite Pinot, and then some months later we were knocked out by the evolution. Gone was a rather too bracing astringency and zowie was it replaced by delectable dark cherry and plum flavors with a perfect balance of acidity. Yummy!

2013 Mt. Beautiful Pinot Noir
$25.99
90 WS We really enjoy the Mt. Beautiful for its earthier, dried fruit flavors. Sufficiently powerful for your favorite lamb dish, it really shines with salmon marinated in shoyu and ginger, and with pork roast glazed with an apricot glaze.
