2011 Charles Melton Father-In-Law Shiraz
Barossa Valley, South Australia

It may have been a tricky vintage but this is a solid, satisfying and surprisingly rich wine. We taste spice, light black pepper, with juicy and dark purple and black fruits.

Winemaker's Notes
"A blend of Barossa and Clare Valleys this is a real "fruit driven" style which will appeal to lovers of big honest reds. The bouquet has aromas of raspberry mocha and spice. The nose displays a hint of capsicum spice as befits the coolness and dampness of a year like 2011. The palate is the star here. It has a lovely sweet richness, is fully flavoured and plush but certainly not big. Poised, rounded and spicy with a long finish."

Technical Notes
"The Father in Law is a block of Clare Valley Shiraz, originally acquired to keep Mrs Melton's dad busy after retirement, enhanced by batches of good Barossa fruit. Although containing a slightly higher proportion of Syd Weckert's (the father in law) block, the wine displays a little less of the Clare dark chocolate and spice, with more of the sweet berry perfume from the Barossa."

96 JH Aromatic wood on the nose and a touch of oak on the palate, this big wine could sit for a while or fill your senses immediately. Earth, chocolate, and some licorice show at the moment. Tasty and a bit more tannin right now than we personally dig, just be cool and mellowness will reward you.

2015 St. Hallett Faith Shiraz
$14.99
New Vintage! '14 91 JH Faith Shiraz is what most wine writers would refer to as a "good value." We prefer to describe it for what it is -- incredibly good and inexpensive too! Layers of black fruit sneak up on you, and there is just enough pepper to lift but not overwhelm the fruit. The St. Hallett winery was founded in the Barossa nearly 70 years ago . It is a noteworthy producer of wines across the price spectrum, and Faith is at all points happy!

2012 Tahbilk Shiraz
$18.99
90 WA Australians know Tahbilk produces unique wines. The reds are comparatively reserved and a tad hard edged at the beginning of their lives but really reward the patient, and yes even a wine at this price is cellar worthy. This Shiraz shows us medium-bodied purple fruits, nice tannins, and more development potential, although we certainly wouldn't refuse to imbibe freely right away.
