2015 Mahi Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, New Zealand
Mahi is owned by Brian Bicknell, the longtime winemaker at Seresin Estate. Hints of grass on the nose, gooseberry and orange citrus on the palate. Really clean and refreshing. Great with cheeses, salads, and lighter dishes.

"This wine shows an array of fruit characters, ranging from citrus through to tropical notes. This is complemented by some secondary characters from the natural yeast ferments and also some barrel aging. The palate has an elegant structure with a creamy, textural mid-palate and a long finish. 13% alc."
"Our Sauvignon this year comes from nine different vineyards, all of them giving particular attributes to the final wine. In order to attain greater texture we pick ripe fruit, wanting layers rather than primary fruit on the nose. The hand-picked fruit was whole-cluster pressed so that the time on skins was minimised. A portion of this juice was barrel-fermented in older French oak to give greater weight, though ensuring that wood is not evident on the nose. This year the barrel and wild portions account for 12% of the blend, which we felt gave a good balance."

Some time in barrel rounds out those edges and you are left with a glass full of gooseberry, slightly tart tropical fruit flavors, and very pleasant memories as the finish slowly slips away.

$18.99Refreshing, crisp, and dry. More tropical fruits on the nose than on the palate. Taste wise, we get herbal notes, light citrus, gooseberry, and dried melon.
$18.99Lots of gooseberry and yet mellower and less overt citrus than many NZ Sauvignon Blancs. Very pleasant.
