2013 Oveja Negra Carignan Single Vineyard
Maule Valley, Chile

Pepper alert, although one of us picked that up more than the other, dark and dry red fruits, perhaps cranberry and cherry, and slightly tannic on the finish. Skewer the onions, peppers, shrooms, and lamb!

Winemaker's Notes
"This ruby red colored wine is intense, fragrant, and fresh, characteristics that were accentuated by the moderate temperatures of the 2013 growing season. There are tart red fruit aromas of cherries, pomegranates and raspberry that continue onto the palate. Smooth tannins and a line of refreshing acidity carry the ample red fruit flavors as well as subtle sweet notes from the fresh oak to a long finish."

Technical Notes
"The grapes were hand-picked in the last week of March and immediately transported to the winery for sorting and gentle destemming. The grapes were cold macerated for four days followed by a warm ferment in open stainless steel tanks for three weeks. During fermentation the cap was pumped over three times daily. The wine was then aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels. 13.5% alc."
Wine & Spirits
"90 pts ... 'Best Buy' Chilean carignan used to be charged with ripe fruit, oak and rustic tannins, but that’s changing quickly, as this wine demonstrates. With a focus on fresh fruit and bright acidity, this brings with red cherry and flower notes. The fruit is intense, but there’s nothing rustic about it – this is just refreshing and vibrant, a wine to drink by the pool."
