2013 Balnaves The Blend
Coonawarra, South Australia

Oh my. This wine is so yummy. Full-bodied and rich without being heavy or obvious, dark cherry and chocolate with just a touch of oak and tannin, so well-balanced, so many layers, and such an amazing value especially as it is delicious now and clearly will age equally wonderfully.

Winemaker's Notes
"Dark red in colour, the nose is intense with aromas of mulberry, wild blackberry and liquorice combined with delicate smoky-coffee French oak. The palate is medium bodied with a soft round Merlot mouth- feel, black fruit flavours and a touch of dried herbs. This wine will reward careful cellaring, and decant before drinking. Matured in French oak for fourteen months. 14.5% alc."
James Halliday
"90 pts ... A 52/46/2% blend of merlot, cabernet and petit verdot matured for 24 months in 100% French oak. It has typical deep and bright colour, and plenty of upfront flavour, the fruit (although not so much the tannins) backing off on the finish. A tidy package at the right price. Drink through 2020."

94 JH Dark, rich, fruits, charry oak, and hints of herbs and licorice. Packs a surprisingly big punch and the flavors keep on going. Fabulous with our grilled burgers and eggplant, and imagine it would pair really well with anything grilled or roasted, with or without herbs, mushroom dishes, and stews.

2013 Penley Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon
Great nose full of currant, dark earth, and some sort of brown spice all reflected on the palate as well. Medium-bodied and a touch of nice, grainy tannins. Flavors really blossom with food and a little air.
