2013 Ocean Eight Pinot Noir
Mornington Peninsula, Victoria Australia
This is simply fabulous. Savory dark red cherry and a rich earthiness are the dominant flavors to us. Very long, full, and satisfying. You can just taste the promise of happy quaffing for years to come.
$44.99 as part of a mixed case.
"Deep and dark in colour, a true 'burgundy' hue with blood red tending to maroon. There is just a little cloudiness which is an indication that the wine has been bottled without filtration and fining in order to retain as much flavour as possible.
At this youthful stage the wine is very fruit dominant in aromas with raspberries and red cherries being the most apparent. Underpinning the fruitiness is some autumnal dried leaf and earthiness.
A chewy layered texture defines the palate which has abundant weight and intensity. The fruit is very much to fore when tasting the wine along the dried leaf with just a subtle hint of char from a little bit of oak. Overall it is already a very complex wine. The finish sees a firm grip from grape tannin and good crisp acid and both these factors will assist the wines aging potential.
Give this wine a decant to aerate the wine and soften the tannin. A perfect wine to match superbly with a soft creamy cheese."
"The winemaking is a very simple process. The grapes are picked by hand and delivered to our gravity fed winery. The ferment on skin is kept cool with constant plunging. This cool ferment builds fantastic aromatics in pinot noir. The plunging helps extract flavour and colour from the skins of pinot noir. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is pressed into barrel and stored at a constant temperature in our unique underground barrel room for 12 months. 13.5% alc."
"95 pts ... Strong crimson-purple; a very rich, layered pinot, with blood plum to the fore, morello cherry in the vanguard; just when you think the fruit is a little one-dimensional, fine, savoury/foresty tannins on the finish haul it into line. Will be long lived. Drink through 2025."

$25.99Wonderful aromas and flavors of red fruits and spice growing deeper through the finish along a backbone of fine tannins. This is no tutti-frutti starter Pinot. Be glad and drink up with your favorite lamb, duck, mushroom, and lentil dishes especially those with eastern spices or herbs a plenty.
$44.9995 JH; 92 ST From the Yarra Valley, one of Australia's premier Pinot Noir growing regions (you too, Tasmania, and you too, Brokenwood Pinot Noir). Ta da - Giant Steps! The perfect drop to enjoy with the Coltrane performance of the same name, we get something fragrant on the nose - wood or spices - and taste purple fruits. The wine has what we think of as the Yarra Valley leanness, perhaps more properly minerality. Very tasty, very food friendly.

$59.9999 BC A true classic. Always wonderful, and always bigger than its Central Otago cousins, the Ata Rangi Pinot Noir shows full-bodied dark red fruits and pairs well with duck sausages off the grill, lamb of course, and even some heartier fish such as sturgeon, salmon or halibut.
