"94 pts ... 100% cabernet sauvignon from a single vineyard;Vibrant aromas of cassis, licorice and wild spices, with complementary hints of chocolate and mocha. Sweet, creamy and deep, with a layered, mouthfilling quality to the cassis and cigar box flavors. Remarkably lush wine for this structured vintage. The broad, palate-staining finish features plenty of suave tannins. I'd give this at least another couple of years before pulling the cork; it should evolve at least through the early 2020s." --03/11 Wine Enthusiast
"92 pts ... Big, bold, savory and herbal, this complex Cab starts with aromas of black cherry, cedar and vanilla, rolling out into rich waves of cedar, blackcurrant, herbs and spice. Masculine and ageable, the wine has a stylish but sturdy character and a lingering pepper finish. A wine for the cellar, or to drink now with a juicy steak." --12/09 Winemaker's Notes
"This stunning single vineyard Cabernet is named for proprietor Simon Barlow’s father, who purchased the Rustenberg farm in 1941 and set unprecedented standards for the estate. Explosive, complex flavors of ripe black currant, cherry and licorice unfold on the palate, layered with subtle hints of flowers, tobacco, and minerals." Technical Notes
"100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Traditional vinification was employed, with nine open pump-overs and two rack & returns. This was followed by an extended 2 week maceration. Natural, primary fermentation was followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine was minimally filtered before bottling. TA 5.96 g/L; pH 3.69; 14.5% alc." | |
