2010 Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz
Clare Valley, South Australia

This winery, and the Mcrae Wood in particular, caused us to fall hard for Australian wines. We've had the pleasure of many vintages since then, all delightful. We get red fruits and fragrant spices, dense but not jammy, really smooth, and definitely one for the cellar....if you can wait.

Winemaker's Notes
"This is a well-weighted, medium-bodied, but concentrated Shiraz, which shows a beautiful purple/red colour with high clarity. It offers perfumed and floral aromas of sandalwood, marjoram and thyme. The palate has a core of sweet dark fruits including raspberry, loganberry, plum and cherry. The tannins are fine grained and carefully balanced with vibrant acidity and a satisfying finish. A wine made using the 'Jim Barry' method and as such can be enjoyed upon release but would equally benefit from a rest in the cellar to allow the wine to show some mature characteristics that come with age."

Technical Notes
"One hundred percent estate grown. 17 months in 30% new oak (75% French, 25% American), and 70% in older oak (1,2, 3 year old barrels). 14%."
Wine Advocate
"92 pts ... Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 The McRae Wood Shiraz has pleasingly vibrant black and blue fruits scents with a hint of mint, chocolate, and some rose plus smoky bacon accents. Medium to full-bodied with medium-firm, fine tannins, the palate is rich with a great fruit core and long finish. It is approachable now and will drink to 2022+."

James Halliday
"94 pts ... No shrinking violet, this rendition captures the brightness of the vintage with fragrant red and black fruits, mocha, licorice and sage on the bouquet; the palate offers a succulent core of vibrant red fruits, fresh acidity and a long, pure and evenly balanced conclusion; there is plenty of wood here, but the fruit handles it with aplomb. Drink through 2022."

2012 Tim Adams Shiraz
Intense yet elegant, especially after a bit of air, the long, dark and juicy fruit flavors are kissed lightly by licorice and oak. Clearly has the balance and oomph for cellaring. Pairs well with the usual culprits - lamb, duck and dishes with exotic spices - and also with pepper steak, roasted turkey with cranberry, or your favorite chair and a good mystery.
Sorry, sold out.

2012 Torbreck Struie
92 WA; 94 JH Savory, by which we mean the pepper and spice box flavors are wonderfully integrated with the lovely dark fruit flavors, especially blackberry and currant. Fabulous with pepper steak, Korea beef, and grilled lamb doused with garlic and rosemary.
