Wine Advocate
"91 pts ... The purple-colored 2006 The McRae Wood Shiraz spent 15 months in seasoned American and French oak. it gives up an alluring bouquet of cigar box, Asian spices, incense, plum, and blueberry. Layered, ripe, and plush on the palate, this full-bodied offering is densely packed and concentrated. It contains enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years and will offer a drinking window extending from 2012 to 2021."--12/09

"95 pts ... Has a very different flavour register to that of The Armagh; notes of red fruit and mint accompany black fruits; the medium- to full-bodied palate is very supple and smooth. Drink through 2025."
Winemaker's Notes
"This is a big, full-bodied Shiraz, shows colours of inky, ruby red and crimson. The nose displays intense aromas of black fruits: raspberry, blackcurrant and plum. These flavours are supported by complex aromas of tar, ashphalt, liquorice, oregano and lavender. The palate is unreserved in its flamboyancy. The initial arrival shows flavours of blueberry, tobacco, nutmeg and cranberry. The departure displays coriander, sage, vanilla pods and cinnamon."
Technical Notes
