2012 Peregrine Pinot Noir
Central Otago, New Zealand
Consistently lovely. We will admit to bias having long ago tasted and enjoyed the entire Peregrine line when visiting the amazing winery located in Central Otago's Gibbston Valley. The Pinot tastes of dark cherries and plums with hints of spicy oak. The long finish has just the perfect tannic oomph.

"Chocolate and spice notes with ripe cherry, blackberry and violet aromas. Richly layered, concentrated berry flavors with elegance and purity."
"100% Hand-harvested. Aged 10 months in French oak. 13.5% alc."
"91 pts ... Pale to medium ruby with a hint of purple, the 2012 Peregrine Pinot Noir offers tons of expressive red cherry and warm cranberry notes with hints of wild thyme, lavender, black soil and moss. Light to medium-bodied and finely crafted in the mouth, it gives just enough fruit for the grainy textured, solid foundation, finishing with very good persistence."
"93 pts ... A bright, vibrant nose here with a wealth of mixed ripe berries and plenty of fresh fragrances, too. There are also poached, pepper- dusted raspberries, which make this mouth-wateringly fresh. The palate has bright and crunchy mid-palate appeal with a handy tannin surge that builds savory grip through the finish. Very attractive wine."

$27.99Honestly not initially our favorite Pinot, and then some months later we were knocked out by the evolution. Gone was a rather too bracing astringency and zowie was it replaced by delectable dark cherry and plum flavors with a perfect balance of acidity. Yummy!
