2006 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia
It's difficult to add to the experts' accolades, especially as we agree this is a lovely, velvety Pinot with dark cherry flavors in balance with its earthy/minerally qualities, and with a long, full finish.

"Produced from what are amongst the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the Yarra Valley, this wine is poised, intensely perfumed, and voluptuous brimming with flavors of sweet strawberry/plum richness, anise, and beetroot. While richly textured, the tanins are silky, round, and mouthfilling to the end. This well balanced Pinot Noir has the rare ability to gain from bottle age in proper cellaring conditions rather than diminish."
"In his search for purity, Dr. Carrodus has maintained his classically proportioned, elegant style of winemaking. Grapes are hand-harvested into small containers before being gently lowered into an antique crusher-destemmer. From there, the must flows into custom designed fermenters - vintage tea chests lined with stainless steel and propped on wheels. When necessary, cooling is achieved by lowering ice blocks into these unique vessels. Maturation is carried out in lightly toasted barrels before the wines are bottled in the simplest of packaging, reflecting the purity of the wines with in.14.5% alc."
"94 pts ... Good hue and clarity; a full-bodied pinot in the expected style of Yarra Yering; supple and velvety in the mouth, it has the full spectrum of plum, black cherry and spice flavours which carry the generous amount of new oak. Long lived style."-- 2010
"92 pts ... Vivid red. Strong red and dark berry aromas are complicated by rose, dark chocolate, herbs and smoky minerals; this is Burgundian in its interplay of fruit, minerals and earth. Suave, sweet raspberry and blackcurrant flavors coat the palate and are energized by brisk minerals. Gains sweetness with air and finishes with a late jolt of bitter blood orange. I really like the mix of depth and energy that this wine offers." --07/08
"92 pts ... Yarra Valley (and neighboring Mornington Peninsula) may be Australia’s prime spots for Pinot Noir and Yarra Yering’s 2006 Pinot Noir does not disappoint. Medium ruby-colored, it offers up a super-expressive bouquet of smoke, spice box, roses, black cherry, and raspberry. Silky on the palate, it is intense and full-flavored while remaining elegant. Its flawless balance should allow it to blossom for several more years and drink well through 2018."--02/09

$64.99New Vintage! '14 95 WS; 96 Decanter; 94 JS The single vineyard Cornish and Calvert Pinots seem to have a greater intensity of fruit, darker and more serious than the Bannockburn, and every bit as delicious and age-worthy. Tannins are present as well, though not quite as rough or dusty as the Bannockburn. We are a somewhat hard-pressed to pinpoint any huge differences between the Cornish and Calvert Pinots, although the Cornish fruit seems juicier and a bit spicier, while the Calvert fruit is even darker.
