Aromatic wood on the nose and a touch of oak on the palate, this big wine could sit for a while or fill your senses immediately. Earth, chocolate, and some licorice show at the moment. Tasty and a bit more tannin right now than we personally dig, just be cool and mellowness will reward you.

Winemaker's Notes
"Vintage 2010 has always been considered a special vintage right from the crushing of the last berry and the 2010 reds reflect this. Deeply coloured, with sweet but dark focused fruit aromatics, these wines have a rich, almost velvety mouthfeel and display fine defining tannins. Certainly an age worthy vintage for the cellar. The consistency of character runs fully across the whole range which is a hallmark of a classic vintage. Deep bright crimson in colour. A reserved but distinct provencal herb nose with just a slight hint of green leaf to add pep to the nose. Will sweeten in perfume given some time in the bottle, although a little of the typical talcum powder perfume is already starting to show through. Some apparent tannin at this youthful stage but well covered by the mid-palate sweetness and these will soften and smoothen given a short time in the cellar."

Technical Notes
"The normal Charles Melton melange of techniques: whole bunch fermentation, along with de-stemmed but uncrushed fruit. Grenache responds favourably to whole bunch treatment which gives lovely aromatic lift. The ferment temperature is kept moderate (18-22c) to help retain fruit flavours and elegance. After pressing the wine was aged in 80% French and 20% American oak of which a quarter was new."
James Halliday
"96 pts ... Deep red-purple; aged for 2 years in 80% French and 20% American barriques (25% new), shiraz is the driver of this effortlessly powerful and focused wine, the medium to full-bodied palate with multiple layers of blackberry, licorice, spice and dark chocolate fruit that have now absorbed the oak contribution, leaving the ripe tannins to steer the finish. Drink through 2030."
