2015 Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia
From the Yarra Valley, one of Australia's premier Pinot Noir growing regions (you too, Tasmania, and you too, Brokenwood Pinot Noir). Ta da - Giant Steps! The perfect drop to enjoy with the Coltrane performance of the same name, we get something fragrant on the nose - wood or spices - and taste purple fruits. The wine has what we think of as the Yarra Valley leanness, perhaps more properly minerality. Very tasty, very food friendly.

"An intricate blend of delicious parcels. Powerful, lifted aromas of cherries, blue and red fruits are complemented by underlying savory, gamey characters. Forest floor flavors carry onto the medium bodied palate which is lush, elegant and broad. Supple yet present tannins will support cellaring for at least ten years."
"The fruit was hand picked and chilled before being de-stemmed, but not crushed, to small open oak vats. 30% of the fruit was maintained as whole bunches. After cold soaking the fruit was fermented with indigenous yeast and minimal cap work. The wine was then transferred by gravity to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and maturation. The barrels were racked twice during spring and summer. Light fining, no filtration, gravity bottled. 14% alc."
"95 pts ... Bright, full color; the wine progressively shifts and builds ground from the bouquet through to the palate, finish and – in particular – the aftertaste, by which time the sheer power of the dark red/purple fruits takes hold. Balance in a bottle."

$84.9994 JH; 92 WA; 92 ST It's difficult to add to the experts' accolades, especially as we agree this is a lovely, velvety Pinot with dark cherry flavors in balance with its earthy/minerally qualities, and with a long, full finish.
Sorry, sold out. Awaiting ETA on next vintage.
