2009 Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay

Age a Chardonnay?! You bet! You will be amazed by the added richness and depth which a really well made Chardonnay can reveal after several years of cellaring. May we slyly suggest that you try a bottle now, make some good notes, then order additional bottles, one to try in 2-3 years and one to try in 4-5 years. Hmmm, but what to do if you love it after 4 years but you'd only purchased just the one bottle ...

James Halliday
"94 pts ... Bright straw-green; an exercise in elegance from start to finish, white peach, nectarine, melon and a touch of grapefruit seamlessly married with the French oak in which it spent 9 months."
Wine Advocate
"93 pts ... Barrel fermented with wild yeast in French oak, 80% new, and matured for 10 months in oak, the 2009 Heytesbury Chardonnay displays alluring meal, cashew and ripe apricot notes with nuances of honeysuckle, lemon curd and brioche. Crisp, rich, ripe, silky and very concentrated in the mouth, it has a long savory finish. Approachable now, it should cellar to 2018+."
Winemaker's Notes
"Brilliant, bright straw in appearance. White peach, pineapple, savoury notes of mushroom and cream, hints of flinty firecrackers, spicy oriental perfumes with frangipani and an inkling of smoked game, and a delicate hazelnut and light toasted vanilla bean. Incredibly body and weight with juicy acid and a firm, balanced structure. The flavours flow onto the palate, complex like the nose, with lingering stonefruit and mouthwatering acidity complimenting the pristine fruit."
