2012 Tahbilk Shiraz
Nagambie Lakes, Victoria, Australia
Australians know Tahbilk produces unique wines. The reds are comparatively reserved and a tad hard edged at the beginning of their lives but really reward the patient, and yes even a wine at this price is cellar worthy. This Shiraz shows us medium-bodied purple fruits, nice tannins, and more development potential, although we certainly wouldn't refuse to imbibe freely right away.

"Notes of dried plums, blackberry and black cherry preserves and mulberries over chocolate, aniseed, tar and damp earth. Full bodied in the mouth, it provides firm, tight-knit tannins and a good amount of blackberry and savoury flavours that linger long onto the finish."
90 pts ... Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Shiraz puts forth youthfully subdued notes of red and black currants, mulberries and blackberries with hints of black peppercorns, tree bark and bacon. Medium-bodied, it gives an elegant expression of this grape with earthy nuances coming through in the long, velvety finish."
