2014 Torbreck Struie
Eden/Barossa Valleys, South Australia

Savory, by which we mean the pepper and spice box flavors are wonderfully integrated with the lovely dark fruit flavors, especially blackberry and currant. Fabulous with pepper steak, Korea beef, and grilled lamb doused with garlic and rosemary.

Winemaker's Notes
"The 2014 vintage benefitted from a cooler period in mid-February, resulting in longer ripening periods and relatively low yields providing fruit with good concentration and depth. The Eden Valley component retained its perfect natural balance and the lifted bouquet enhances this unique wine style. The harmonious combination of both regions has delivered a wine with plentiful dark fruit characters and aromatic notes. Dense spice, nuances of plum, black olive, lavender and opulent cherry characters all further enhance the natural elegance and persistence of the fruit quality. The 2014 Struie will certainly age gracefully well into the next decade."

Technical Notes
"100% Shiraz from 40-60 year old vines. 18 months in seasoned French oak. 15% alc."
Wine Advocate
"91+ pts ... Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 The Struie is scented of crushed blackberries, blueberries and cloves with hints of chocolate box, Sichuan pepper and anise. The black fruit and peppery character coat the full-bodied palate with ripe, spicy flavors, supported by rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with a herbal lift."

James Halliday
"94 pts ... Earth, briary blackberries, anise, sweet raspberry. It's a tried and true formula for Torbeck but it works. The alcohol is high but the finish remains fresh; it almost feels refreshing. Chocolate and dried date character add to the impression of power."
