Winemaker's Notes
"The nose is classical Gewrztraminer with rose petal, lychee and musk. Behind these aromas you also find passionfruit, lemon, ginger and coriander seed aromas. The immediate impression on the palate is of great concentration and wonderful balance. The mouthfeel is big and soft with sweet fruit expression on the mid-palate,yet the wine finishes just off-dry. The fruit characters on the nose are also found on the palate with citrus, lychee and floral flavours dominating in the young wine. As the wine develops it will become more expressive on the nose and increasingly complex with age." Technical Notes
"At the foot of Marlborough's dry Wither Hills, adjacent to our winery the Lawson's and thw Woodward vineyards consistently produce intensely flavoured Gewrztraminer grapes. After flowering both vineyards were shoot thinned and lightly leaf plucked to improve exposure to the sun.Post veraison late bunches were removed to help achieve even ripening. The weather was kind to us and we picked as the flavours reached optimum. The Lawson's vineyard was picked in three parcels with the last coming in at a very ripe and luscious 25.7 brix. Both vineyards were machine harvested and gently pressed with minimal skin contact. The resulting free run juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks with specially selected aromtic yeasts. The pressing from each parcel of fruit were fermented in older Frechn oak barriques(7.5 %) of the total blend) and was allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation. Drink now or cellar over the next six years. p.H. 3.66; residual sugar 4.7 g/L: T.A. 4.4 g/L. 14% alc." |
