2010 Leeuwin Prelude Cabernet Merlot
Margaret River, Western Australia

Slightly smoky, dark fruits, medium-bodied, subtle - a terrific food wine especially with grilled fowl and game, mushroom dishes, roasted potatoes, and cheese. Amazing price for a wine of this quality and age!

Winemaker's Notes
"An integrated and layered nose, characterized by varietal blackcurrants, ripe dark cherries and a hint of cassis laced with dried sage, tobacco, cassia bark and cumin. Fragrant lavender, mocha notes and subtle oak char give rise to a very attractive nose. Finely textured and contoured, the palate is highlighted by a soft mouth feel and gentle fruit weight, threaded with a delicate mineral acid line. Restrained black fruits weave together with coffee bean and fresh cigar notes, finishing with long silky tannins."

Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (14%), Malbec (4%), Petit Verdot (2%). Aged 18 months in French oak barriques, 30% new. 13% alc."

"90 pts ... Bright ruby. Spicy, high-pitched aromas of redcurrant and cherry skin, with hints of pipe tobacco and cracked pepper coming up with aeration. Tangy and precise, offering fresh red fruit flavors and emerging licorice and woodsmoke qualities. Closes on a spicy note, with very good energy and lift and fine-grained tannins that add shape."
