2011 Susana Balbo Malbec
Mendoza, Argentina

A terrific example of Malbec - deep rich color and flavors, a bit tannic, and dark berry fruits, an altogether powerful wine whose flavors really explode with food, especially anything off of the grill, especially if it is steak....did we mention this wine loves red meat?

Winemaker's Notes
" Beautiful deep violet color with exploding aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and violets framed by hints of oak and mint. The wonderful aromas are mirrored on the palate, and they are joined by ripe plum fruit and a hint of toasty vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of mint on the finish. This is a ripe and rich style of wine, reigning in the fruit and focusing it into a long finish. A wine that truly struggles between its fun and serious side. Pairs well with a wide range of foods from beef and pork to game birds or even meat-based pastas. This is what Malbec is all about."

Technical Notes
"90% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 13 months in 80% new French and 20% second use French barriques. 14.5% alc."
Wine Spectator
"90 pts ... 'Smart Buy' A dense, chewy red, exhibiting dark raspberry coulis, blackberry reduction and plum skin notes that remain fresh through the smoke- and mineral-tinged finish."
