Brace yourself. Very dry, very clean. Very, well, bracing and so fabulous. Think shellfish, salad with goat cheese, or perhaps onion soup.

"This wine shows a good aromatic intensity with bright herbaceous and floral notes, gooseberry and lime. It is layered with flavours ranging from guava, melon, gooseberry and lime zest. This uplifting Sauvignon shows an excellent length and depth on the palate."

2011 Craggy Range Te Muna Road Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Craggy Range Te Muna Road Sauvignon Blanc
90 BC

Think juicy and tart green apple, lime, lemongrass, dried coriander, and mouth-puckering acidity. A most wonderful Sauvignon Blanc.

"Pale straw colour streaked with vibrant green hues. Aromatic, lime and nectarine fruit combine with flint, jasmine and dried herbs for an intense and complex bouquet. The palate's sweet fruited core is framed by citrus like acidity and gains textural interest via a chalky finish."

2011 Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc 2011 Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc
91 BC

As with the Lawson's Dry Hills and Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blancs, the Ata Rangi achieves a terrific balance of flavors - passionfruit, citrus, gooseberry are all there together with that special Kiwi mouth-puckering acidity. The partial barrel ferment adds pleasantly to the body and palate weight.

"Notes of elderflower, lemon/lime, tropical papaya and hints of fresh fennel are defining features of the 2011, along with a full, creamy palate entry, lovely weight and a long and focused finish. The portions fermented in barrel, hand-picked fruit, and the extended fermentation on lees are integral to achieving our more subtle and food-friendly style."

2010 Seresin Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010 Seresin Estate Sauvignon Blanc

Michael Seresin told us he really dislikes Sauvignon Blanc. If that is actually true, it must be a key to making terrific Sauvignon Blanc, or the reason there is always a bit of Semillon in the Seresin together with a partial barrel ferment. Either way, we find this wine almost honeyed; it is not sweet, but has sort of rounded, softer citrus flavors, good acidity, and a nice minerally finish. Plenty of body for food pairings.

"95% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillon. This Sauvignon Blanc displays aromas of grapefruit and lime underpinned by a chalky mineral complexity. The palate is finely textured with gooseberry, zesty citrus and mineral flavours combined with a slight creaminess. A firm acidity helps to draw out the finish. This wine is drinking well now but will develop well over the next five years showing great concentration with evolving truffle and caramel characters."

2009 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc "Section 94" 2009 Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc "Section 94"
92+ WA; 93 ST

When you smell this wine, you will think you are wandering in a citrus grove in bloom, and the flavors are equally lovely. Quite full-bodied, with lots of mineral and citrus flavors all rounded and enriched by the extended time on lees and in barrel.

"Aromatic white flowers, ripe citrus and minerally sauvignon fruit together with intense yeast character derived from extended lees contact. The full bodied palate has a refined complexity enhanced by intense mineral and citrus flavours. Enjoy with fish, poultry and vegetable dishes and especially aromatic white cheeses."
